Tis the Season!

by

All at once! Tis the season to be sicky!
First of all, being on my period makes my body extra sensitive. I spoke to my voice therapist and that does help explain why my body has been unable to fight off the laryngitis. If you are a boy and you hate hearing the word, “period,” deal with it. It is an important part of a woman’s health and will come up more and more often as our immune systems lower and we are less able to fight off a disease when it is “that time of the month.”
Second, having the period, the illness, and two shows a day, I am just plain exhausted. I could use sleep right now, but I had to stay awake in order to get seen by a doctor.
The problem is that I won’t be able to stop singing even if the doctor says I have to stop using my voice. I have to remind myself that we have only 3 weeks left of this gig and then I will finally get the chance to not talk. I hate counting down. It’s most because I feel extra sick today. I am looking forward to having the time to sleep even more tonight.
As a fellow performer, I am sure you can feel my pain of impatience. I just want to feel better now!
