The Importance of Organization
Important could not be emphasized enough when it comes to organization as a performer. I have a notebook that contains all of my 16-bar cuts and recordings of the piano accompaniment for every song in my audition book. … but that is not all, I also have a book that keeps track of all the theatres I have auditioned/submitted to … I keep track of the interaction, whether or not there was a callback and if they stated they were interested in my talent. I also keep record of any submissions (meaning - sending my headshot/resume/demo reel) to theatres. I only do this when I am unable to make it to an audition. It is best when it is because I am currently doing a gig. It looks good to have that in there when writing a cover letter. I have a mini-hard drive that carries digital copies of my headshots and resumes. That way, in case I fall short of what I need on a day full of auditions, I have what I need in order to get a fast print made. Missing out on an audition - not good. The process of self-promotion requires organization if it is going to be done right. The more detailed I get with every detail, the more of a relationship I can create with a theatre, even if I have not worked for them. Yes, it is highly time consuming, but well-worth it.
