Thanksgiving Off
Yes, this would be something you would have to give up if you are a working performer. It is very rare for a performer to have Thanksgiving off. Today, our cast is lucky to have only one show in the afternoon. We will get out on time to be able to have a dinner with each other. It is still hard for all of us because we would rather be with our families.
Because of my grandmother’s recent death, my family is all together in Queens, New York at her apartment having a family dinner. It would be so good to be there, but I can’t. I will make a phone call, but it is not the same.
It does not really feel like a holiday when you have to work. That’s why people get paid extra to work on these days. It should not be a day a person has to give up. Yet, many/most performers do have to give up their day.
However, if I was in a Broadway show, it would mean I would get to perform in the Macys Parade and why would I want to pass that up? That would be a dream come true.
