Tech Week

by Jenna Kantor

There is something about tech week that makes everything so much more difficult. Even if I have everything memorized, there is still that adjustment and growth as a performer that occurs in the final week of rehearsals.
I worked with this amazing, inspiring director who lived by the motto “Tech is Fun!” It was such a positive way to go about the rough week ahead. Because of his motto, it kept me in a good mindset just before we opened. So, now I try to carry that with me in every tech week. I may not say it out loud for people may get annoyed with me. But in my head, everything seems more solvable. I don’t find myself getting as down as I could because I am a positive mind set. I do have my moments, but overall, I am in a better place.
We are ahead of schedule with A Christmas Carol. This is great because it gives us time to do more run throughs and work through scenes that need the work. It gives me more time as an actor to develop my role and feel more at home with the show before we have an audience.
Simultaneously, it is oober difficult to get things done outside of the show. The blog definitely gets the grunt of it. I didn’t get a chance to write my blog yesterday simply because I had too much homework to do for the show. In the end, it’s all good because I get to do what I love.
