Safety Music

by Jenna Kantor

What is safety music? In Little Black Book, the lead character’s safety music is very clear.

It has taken me a long time to really understand what is safety music for me. In the end, this is how I would define it: Safety music is music that keeps me in a positive and hopeful mindset. It inspires me and helps kick out any negativity that wants to waste my time.

Finding songs that do this for me has been fun. So far, here is my list:
1. Peace of Mind - Boston
2. More Than A Feeling - Boston
3. You Will Know - Black Men United
4. We Will Rock You - Queen
5. We Are The Champions - Queen
6. Most house music
7. Don’t Worry, Be Happy - Bob Marley
8. The Sun Is Shining - Bob Marley
9. I Can See Clearly Now - Bob Marley
10. Sitting At The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding

Those are a few songs that help me get through some rough times. You will notice at number 6 I wrote “most house music.” In general, most house music gives out a positive message. The beats are fun and uplifting. Not only does it put me in a great mood, it gets me dancing!

Now I ask you - do you have music that helps lift you up when times are rough?
