Matt Nathanson
Taking risks and doing what scares you. That is exactly what this inspirational performer did on Thursday night at the Nokia theatre. It was so great to be a part of it. I am not a huge fan of this artist, but he got to me while I sat in that audience ready to go to sleep (was up really early that morning). He kept me awake. There were two very memorable things he did at this concert.
First, he played a song he was afraid to play. I am not making this up - he said it out loud. It was an older song of his that he had played in a long time. Why did he play it? Apparently, he made a promise to himself to do things that scare him on this tour.
Second, he randomly agreed to play ACDC’s “Shook Me All Night Long.” After a song, the guitarist goofed off and randomly played the intro to the ACDC song. Matt Nathanson joked about playing the song and the audience went nuts. In response to the audience, he agreed to play the song and promised that they would butcher it. It was a fantastic performance cause the audience was right there with him.
He took chances in his show and it was great to experience. He went out there balls to the wall and celebrated life. When he was on that stage, he was just “being.”
As a performer, there was a lot to learn from that performance.
